Payments & scams

Every task is paid through Neighbour. That's what makes your protection possible.

How a payment hold works

  • The requester pays when a booking is accepted — the money is held securely by Neighbour.
  • The helper carries out the task and marks it complete.
  • The requester confirms completion, and the payment is released to the helper.
  • If something goes wrong, the funds are still held while we look into it.

Warning signs of a scam

  • Asking to pay or be paid by bank transfer, cash, gift card or crypto.
  • Pressure to move to WhatsApp, email or text before a booking is confirmed.
  • Requests for your bank details, card numbers, ID copies or one-time codes.
  • An offer that's far above or below a sensible price for the work.
  • Refusing to describe the task properly, or changing it after you arrive.

If you see any of these, stop and report it. You'll never be penalised for walking away from something that feels wrong.

Going off-platform

Payments and messages arranged outside Neighbour have no payment hold, no record, and no route to support. Off-platform payment requests are a breach of our Community Guidelines and can lead to suspension.
