Messaging guidance

Keeping conversations on Neighbour gives you a record, moderation and support if anything goes wrong.

Good things to share

  • Exactly what the task involves, and anything the helper needs to bring.
  • Access details such as parking, stairs, pets or where to knock.
  • Timings, and how long you expect the task to take.
  • Photos of the job so there are no surprises on the day.

Keep these private

  • Your full address until a booking is confirmed and it's needed for the task.
  • Bank details, card numbers or payment links.
  • Copies of ID documents, passports or driving licences.
  • One-time passcodes — no genuine person or service will ever ask for one.

How moderation works

Messages are automatically checked for contact details shared too early and for attempts to arrange payment off Neighbour. Where we spot these, the message may be masked or blocked and you'll see a short warning. Repeated attempts are reviewed by our safety team and can lead to suspension.

You can report any message confidentially from the conversation. The other person is never told who reported them.
